Suntex Marinas Expands at Two Properties
Published on October 16, 2018Two Suntex Marina properties—Glade Marina on Lake Allatoona, Georgia, and Vero Beach Marina in Florida—have expanded their facilities with the addition of new floating docks from Meeco Sullivan.
Suntex Marinas purchased Glade Marina, located near Atlanta’s northwestern suburbs, in 2013. The marina offers a full range of boating and recreational amenities on its 137 acres.
The marina’s new dock—the tenth on the site—includes 30 covered slips for 24-foot boats and 10 covered sips for 36-foot boats. Meeco Sullivan designed, built and installed the new dock, which features a galvanized steel truss frame, a roof system with skylights, sunburst concrete deck tiles and polyethylene floats. A winch/cable anchoring system accommodates the fluctuating lake level, which is controlled by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
With the addition of the tenth dock, Glade Marina can now accommodate 332 boats of varying sizes.
At Vero Beach Marina, Meeco Sullivan installed two 120-foot T-heads and 300 feet of connecting docks, adding 23 open slips ranging in size from 40 to 60 feet. For this project, Suntex Marina chose the Sullivan Timber system with IPE decking, polyethylene floats and piling anchors. In addition, Meeco Sullivan built a customized floating dock to accommodate the weight of the electrical substation.
The challenges of this project included limited and tight access areas around the marina. The first docks were delivered to the site in early May; Meeco Sullivan had to carefully plan and manage this process to ensure that it finished the project by mid-June, in time for new summer boaters.
The additional slips have boosted Vero Beach Marina’s capacity to 155 boats ranging in size from 12 feet to 35 feet. It also has a 150-foot face dock for transient boaters.
