BOEM Taking Comments on Proposed Wind Farm off New England

As part of the preparation for its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has begun its scoping process on the proposed wind energy facility in the waters off Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York.  Deepwater Wind has proposed the construction of 15 turbines and an electric service platform offshore of Rhode Island and Massachusetts and an export cable to East Hampton, New York. The project area is approximately 19 miles southeast of Block Island, Rhode Island and 35 miles east of Montauk Point, New York.

Throughout the scoping process, there will be multiple opportunities for citizens to help BOEM determine significant resources (e.g. avian, marine mammals) and issues, impact-producing factors, reasonable alternatives, and potential mitigating measures to be analyzed in the EIS.

Three scoping meetings will be held to collect comments: November 5 at the American Legion Post 419 in Amagansett, New York; November 7 at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth School for Marine Science and Technology in New Bedford, Massachusetts and November 8 at the Narragansett Community Center in Narragansett, Rhode Island.
