Maryland Clean Marina Re-certifies Marinas and Announces Workshops
Published on January 7, 2019The Maryland Clean Marina Initiative closed out the year re-certifying seven Clean Marinas, announcing plans for its upcoming workshops, and providing ideas for winter activities that marinas should undertake.
The following facilities met both regulatory requirements and environmental best practices to renew their Clean Marina certifications for another three years:
- Annapolis City Marina
- BMC Inner Harbor Marine Center (Baltimore)
- Island View Marina (Chester)
- Maryland Yacht Club (Pasadena)
- Ocean City Fishing Center
- Skipjack Cove Yachting Center (Georgetown)
- Sunset Marina (Ocean City)
For marinas in Maryland that are not yet certified the program offers annual workshops, which include tours of marinas and presentations on topics of interest to marinas and boatyards. The workshops are open to operators of all types of marine facilities. This year’s events will be held February 7 in Rock Hall, February 12 in Solomons and February 14 in Annapolis.
With the boating season in a winter slow down in the state, Maryland Clean Marina reminds marinas this is a good time to review and update Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety data sheets for chemicals staff uses. The review itself should be documented and kept on file. Now is also a good time to organize required permits, plans and records, especially the General Permit for Discharge from Marinas and Boatyards. Finally, winter provides downtime for staff training.
