Great Bay Marina Continues Dock Replacements
Published on June 15, 2020Great Bay Marina in Newington, New Hampshire, offers 128 slips and 36 acres of boat storage. Over the last few years, the marina, which opened in 1956, has been replacing some of its existing docks. Most recently, it removed its E dock and installed an eight-section, 460-foot concrete floating dock from SF Marina Systems.
The marina is located on the Piscataquis River, which handles water from the Great Bay. Currents over 5 knots and fierce chop are a regular occurrence, and winter ice can be an issue at the year-round facility.
Since the E docks are located at the marina’s outer edge, Great Bay requested heavier-duty docks from SF Marina Systems when it placed its order last July, according to marina manager Sean McKenna, CM. The marina staff installed the docks in February, replacing the chain while reusing the anchoring system already in place.
Meeco Sullivan constructed the wooden fingers for Dock E, and used a stainless-steel tracking system to attach them to the main runs.
The work was completed just prior to the Covid virus shutdown.
The project ran smoothly, said McKenna. “SF Marina and Meeco Sullivan work well together. The products were great, and the installation went well.”
