ORR Attends National Conference of State Legislators

Outdoor recreation took center stage at the 2022 National Conference of State Legislators Legislative Summit earlier this month. Outdoor Recreation Roundtable coordinated a session at the conference that explored the outdoor recreation economy at the state level and showcased policies to expand outdoor opportunities including the creation of state offices of outdoor recreation, ORR’s rural development toolkit, new funding sources, and more. The panel included perspectives from:

• Frank Hugelmeyer, president, National Marine Manufacturers Association
• Luis Benitez, vice president for Government Affairs and Global Impact, VF Corporation
• Colorado State Representative Leslie Herod (D)
• Utah State Representative Jeff Stenquist (R)

“What we saw over the last 24 months was extraordinary growth for the outdoor recreation industry. This economic engine has been overlooked in many states — it is one that can help attract businesses and is part of a balanced economic strategy,”  Frank Hugelmeyer said.
