Sustainability is a Top Focus for Michigan Marina
Published on May 2, 2024A new state-of-the-art marina in west Michigan is opening soon, with a focus on sustainable design. Adelaide Point is the new community development on Lake Muskegon in western Michigan. The site, once a hub of the timber industry during the turn of the century, and later the home of Michigan Steel, will become a community for boating and waterfront recreation. The new marina has a Michigan-made wood floating dock system with 169 slips to accommodate vessels 40 to 80 feet. Dock-side amenities include 30/50/100-amp power, water and Wi-Fi. The marina also includes a ship’s store, dockmaster’s office, captain’s lounge with restrooms, showers, laundry and a pool and patio with grill. The facility offers 24/7 video surveillance and gated entries along with a dedicated security office staffed by the city of Muskegon and Muskegon County to ensure the campus remains secure.
A dry storage marina accommodates up to 300 vessels of 40 feet in length. A phone app permits easy scheduling of launch times while a dedicated customer service dock allows for seamless transition from the dry marina to the lake and back again. The new facility also includes storage and “man cave” spaces for rent. A new multi-use building of mass timber construction will offer a yacht dealership, drinks and dining by Muskegon Brewing Company and hosting opportunities for weddings and other events. The mass timber construction, while sustainable, permits the three-story building to be raised in about a month.
The marina opens in May, and the brewery will follow shortly afterward. The remaining facilities will open in July with the first wedding already planned for June 28.
