Upgrades at San Diego Bay Boat Repair Shop

Marine Group Boat Works (MGBW) recently overhauled the docks at its Chula Vista facility on San Diego Bay. With the help of Marina Technologies (MTI), MGBW replaced the expiring concrete floating docks with a new aluminum system. “The concrete floating docks at the MGBW facility in San Diego were in bad shape and in need of replacement,” said owner Todd Roberts. “We had always used concrete floating docks out here, and I basically thought that was our only option. We got a quote from a local supplier, and it was very expensive.”

On a recent trip to Blue Haven Resort in Turks & Caicos, Roberts noticed the resort’s aluminum docking system with composite decking and the 250-foot mega-yachts that were tied up. “I inquired with the marina manager who stated that they were very pleased with the dock system from MTI,” Roberts said.

“Roberts wanted a dock system with high loading capacity, ability to handle storm waves, large heavy-duty cleats/bollards and top-access utility troughs,” said Bob Berry, account manager for MTI. “We delivered at a greatly reduced price compared to the local concrete system.” Berry said MGBW also purchased a new 820-ton mobile telescopic boat hoist system, to be delivered in fall 2024. MGBW is a one-million square foot facility that services and builds vessels more than 250 feet in length. The business also plans to install the largest solar panel array on the San Diego waterfront.
