Portland Ship Yard Receives Small Shipyard Grant
Published on November 1, 2017Portland Ship Yard of Maine, sister company to Portland Yacht Services, will receive a $990,500 Small Shipyard Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration to replace a boat hoist.
Since 2014 the yard’s hoist has been unusable for 225 days either due to problems or safety concerns. A new 330-ton mobile boat hoist will be purchased with the grant allowing the yard to be fully operational and accommodate the many commercial vessels in the area that need service.
Small Shipyard Grants are intended for capital and related improvements that increase efficiency and competitive operations, and enable quality ship construction, repair and rebuild.
