AMI Hosts Conference & Expo 2024
Published on February 27, 2024The Association of Marina Industries (AMI) hosted its annual conference and expo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, January 30 through February 1, 2024. Marinas from around the country met with industry experts, leaders, and manufacturers for three days of networking, education, and training.
More than 150 exhibitors were on the trade show floor, showcasing their latest products and services for the marine industry. The opening keynote was presented by Bill Benjamin, a partner at Last Eight Percent, who addressed how to build culture within a team in critical moments. Attendees learned how to communicate within their own teams to build a high-performance culture within an organization.
Education is Key
Breakout sessions during the conference gave attendees the opportunity to learn about what is on the horizon for the marina industry. Speakers touched on multiple topics including effective leadership and management techniques; marine infrastructure design and resiliency; and storm preparation and preparedness. Technological advances, such as the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and electric propulsion, were also covered at the conference. Daniel Berman and John McMillan, with AD1 Global, discussed how marinas can utilize AI to assist with daily operations at marinas and boatyards. A brainstorming session led by a panel of industry experts focused on the issues and myths surrounding the future of electric vehicles and boats at marinas. The panelists discussed how the introduction of electric boats will affect marina infrastructure, fire safety, and storage requirements.
New to the conference this year was the Women’s Leadership Breakfast. A panel of women leaders, both within and outside of the marine industry, led an enlightening discussion, sharing life lessons and inspiring stories about the career journeys that have led them to where they are today.
