Applications for BlueFuture Grants Now Being Accepted
Published on April 2, 2018West Marine has begun accepting applications for its 2018 BlueFuture grants. The $1,500 grants are awarded to non-profit, community-based organizations that work to get more kids out on the water, foster conservation practices and encourage interest in the marine sciences. Groups that teach boating, boat building, fishing, paddling, surfing are encouraged to apply, as well as those that build programs to introduce youth to aquatic sustainability. Grant recipients can use the funds for whatever they need in their programs such as scholarships, equipment and staffing. The grant period closes on May 31 at which time a panel of West Marine judges will begin reviewing applications and announce 50 winners sometime in early summer.
West Marine created its nonprofit BlueFuture program in May 2015 to provide critical grant funding to charities across North America. They conduct three fundraisers each year that coordinate with National Safe Boating Week, World Oceans Day, and Month of Giving. Year-round donations are accepted at westmarine.com/BlueFuture.
