Construction Continues at Fort Lauderdale Marina

Construction is well underway at Las Olas Marina in Fort Lauderdale. Suntex Marinas broke ground on the $70 million dollar project in the spring of 2022. The long list of improvements was expected to take two years to complete, putting the waterfront opening in the spring of 2024. The marina design will include 7,000 linear feet of dockage to accommodate yachts between 88 and 250 feet in length.

“This mega-yacht marina will be transformative for District 2 and the entire city,” said District 2 commissioner Steven Glassman. “It has been a long time in the making, and I am proud to have opposed every massive development proposal on this site in the past 20 years. This enabled us to have a beautifully landscaped marina with restaurants that will tie into the rest of the Las Olas corridor improvements.”

The new waterfront will also include a three-story 31,000-square-foot marine services building with a casual restaurant, ship’s store, office space, a gym, a swimming pool, and an outdoor patio. The new design also includes a two-story 15,000-square-foot upscale waterfront restaurant with outdoor dining area. Other infrastructure improvements include a new sanitary pump station to meet the sanitary flow capacity demanded by the project’s expansion as well as anticipated future development at the waterfront.

The redevelopment is expected to be a money maker for the city of Fort Lauderdale with an economic impact of $221 million each year. The project is estimated to create 650+ jobs during construction and 1,110 full-time jobs at completion.
