Maryland and Michigan Announce Certified Clean Marinas
Published on December 23, 2020Both Maryland and Michigan clean marina programs, announced recent certifications and recertifications of marinas. Clean Marina is a voluntary program adopted by many states with the goal of having marinas adopt best management practices and an adherence to regulations to keep our nation’s waterways clean.
The certification process begins with a pledge to participate in the program, followed by distribution of the Clean Marina Guidebook and/or a course that provide an overview of the designation process and a review of best management practices. After implementing improvements and reaching a level of competencies, an on-site inspection is done to evaluate the facility’s environmental stewardship. When the facility reaches established goals, they receive their designation.
The following marinas have recently renewed their Maryland Clean Marina certifications for another three years: Campbell’s Boatyards; Miles River Yacht Club; Pleasure Cove Marina; Shipwright Harbor; Casa Rio Marina; and Maryland Marina.
The Michigan Clean Marina Program announced eight Michigan marinas have been named as Certified Clean Marinas. They are: Discovery Pier; Eagle Pointe Harbor; Macatawa Bay Yacht Club; Michigan Harbor Properties; North Star Sail Club; Pentwater Municipal; Pier 33; and Skipper Buds Cass Lake. Each has been certified for three-year terms through 2023.
