Maryland Clean Marina Re-certifies Seven Marinas
Published on September 23, 2019The following marinas and boatyards successfully completed re-certification as Maryland Clean Marinas:
- Bay Ridge Community Association, Annapolis
- Choptank Marina, Preston
- Port of Salisbury Marina, Salisbury
- Safe Harbor Oxford Boatyard, Oxford
- Spring Cove Marina, Rock Hall
- Tidewater Marina, Havre de Grace
- Ventnor Marina, Pasadena
Clean Marina certification is good for three years, after which the facility needs to have another site visit from program staff to verify that the marina’s “best practices” are still in place. Typical best management practices include routinely giving customers fuel pads at a fuel dock, having current emergency response plans, and taking steps to share environmental education information with customers/boaters. At least two other marinas are nearing completion of their first certification and will be announced soon. A complete list of certified Clean Marinas is available online.
The Maryland Clean Marina Program will have a booth at the upcoming Annapolis Boat Show. In addition to explaining to boaters the importance of choosing Clean Marinas, staff will explain the responsibilities of boat ownership such as never discharging raw sewage, petroleum or trash. Staff will promote the locations of the pumpout stations in Maryland and give boaters free oil-absorbent pads and tip cards.
