Maryland Facilities Attain Clean Marina Certification
Published on September 25, 2020Following construction of its new facility, the Annapolis Yacht Club Sailing Center was certified as a Maryland Clean Marina this summer. The old facility was certified several years ago, but the new one is modern and contains indoor repair areas. Storm water controls such as rain gardens and porous pavement were used across the parking area and staff maintain outreach to members and guests reminding them of best practices for boaters to protect our waterways.
Typical Clean Marina best management practices include routinely giving customers fuel pads at a fuel dock, having current emergency response plans, and taking steps to share environmental education information with customers/boaters. A complete list of certified Clean Marinas is available online.
Clean Marina certification is good for three years, after which facilities need to have another site visit from program staff to verify that the marina’s best practices are still in place. The following marinas and boatyards successfully completed re-certification as Clean Marinas this summer:
- Haven Harbour Marina
- Rhode River Marina
- Spring Cove Marina (Solomons)
- Sweden Point Marina
- Fairview Marina
- Atlantic Marina on the Magothy
- Essex Marina and Boat Sales
