New Bern Grand Hosts King of the River Tournament

The New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club hosted this year’s King of the River Fishing Tournament August 4 to 5. Supporting the event were PointClickFish.com, Neuse River Bait & Tackle and this year’s title sponsor, The Fish Grip.

The in-shore tournament had a prize of $5,000 for “The King of the River,” the boat that had the heaviest total combined weight from both days. The tournament also offered daily cash prizes and an “Old Drum Kicker” pot, where the boat with the largest recorded length on the official release ruler was awarded as the winner of the pot.

“In 2016, the New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club strategically decided to attract and bring boating events back to New Bern by way of the marina’s event delighter services. This event was a no-brainer for the fishing community, as the Neuse and Trent rivers offer some of the best river fishing on the East Coast due to the brackish water and our close proximity to the coast,” said Jeremy McConnell, dockmaster, New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club.
