New Docks Next Year for New York Yacht Club
Published on November 15, 2021Harris Bay Yacht Club, established in 1983, includes a 271-slip marina located on Lake George in Cleverdale, New York. The existing timber dock system has required significant maintenance, repairs and board and float replacement over the years, so the club has decided to replace them.
After a detailed analysis of various timber docks and aluminum-framed dock systems, the yacht club decided to go with an aluminum dock system. Marina Technologies will build the docks, which will include composite decking, polyethylene floats, aluminum-reinforced PVC fenders and pressure adjustable corner bumpers. The docks include dual top-access troughs with five-foot long aluminum cover panels. The fuel dock has a separate central utility trough for fuel lines.
The yacht club was able to save some money on the project because they did not have to pull up the existing steel pipe piles and redrive them. They could reuse the piles in their current locations because of Marina Technologies’ side-opening, integrated pile guides with adjustable UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) wear pads.
Marina Technologies will complete the fabrication of the docks this winter, and they will be installed sometime in the spring or summer 2022. The docks are strong enough to freeze in place, so they can remain in the water during the winter.
