Northeast Utah Marina Undergoes Expansion

An expansion project is now underway at Bear Lake Marina in northeast Utah. New docks and other improvements are taking place in the West Beach North area. Citing an unseasonably warm fall, the team began construction in November in hopes of getting a head start on the building in 2025. According to the project website, selection of the West Beach North site is owed mostly to its proximity to the existing marina. Winning attributes of the site also include the existing trail and highway accesses, existing utility connections and fee collection facilities, availability of local source material and constructable topography and lower wetland impact.

The state of Utah awarded $60 million in funding in early 2023 to improve safety, lake access and protection of the water resource. The popularity of the lake as a boating destination has put a strain on the facilities, prompting overflow visitors to seek alternate access points, often those without proper inspection of invasive aquatic species. The expanded marina will include a larger boat launch, permitting access during low-water levels, increased slip count and more parking.
