PIDP Funding for Lummi Nation
Published on April 1, 2025Last fall, the Lummi Nation was awarded just over $18 million in federal funding through the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) to upgrade fishing docks and accompanying infrastructure at Fisherman’s Cove. Beyond dock improvements, the money will be used to purchase an electric lift and four Davit cranes as well as upgrade rail infrastructure to improve the nation’s waterfront commerce.
“Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Lummi Nation has the funding it needs to construct a new dock that can accommodate larger boats and vessels at Fisherman’s Cove and a rail system for fishermen to more easily transport their catches from the waterfront to market – an investment that means more jobs, long-term economic growth and safer, more reliable maritime infrastructure in Lummi Bay and the Salish Sea,” said Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02).
The PIDP is a discretionary grant program administered by the Maritime Administration (MarAd). Funds for the PIDP are awarded on a competitive basis to projects that improve the safety, efficiency or reliability of the movement of goods into, out of, around or within a port. The Lummi Nation’s award is among the $44.5 million of PIDP funds awarded to Washington ports.
“The Lummi Nation would like to thank Representative Larsen for his support in securing funding for the Fisherman’s Cove Dock Replacement Project,” said Lummi Nation Chairman Anthony Hillaire. “By backing this project, you are directly supporting our Lummi fishermen and ensuring their access to the Salish Sea. We look forward to collaborating on future projects and continuing to work together.”
