Public Pier Opens in Newport Harbor, California

Residents in Orange County, California, now have more access to Newport Harbor, thanks to the opening of the new Balboa Marina Public Pier. A partnership between the city of Newport Beach, Orange County and the Irvine Company, the new pier includes 12 docks for daily public use. Discussion of the project began as far back as 2011. Constructing the public pier came through an agreement between the Irvine Company and the California Coastal Commission, which allowed for construction of an adjacent private marina. The city covered the entitlement costs and will maintain the pier and docks.

“We know this will not only increase the opportunities people have to access the inner harbor, but it will also open up a new gateway to our city,” Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill said. “It will allow more folks to come here, enjoy themselves and eat and shop local.”
