RMK Merrill-Stevens Continues Renovations to Florida Superyacht Shipyard
Published on March 9, 2020Shipyard owner RMK Merrill-Stevens (RMK MS) is continuing to work on a $30 million renovation of its shipyard in Miami. The shipyard operates from two locations, one on each side of the Miami River.
The North Yard, now called the Miami Superyacht Center, is being completely reconstructed. It will feature a 2,700-ton Syncrolift shiplift designed by Pearlson Shiplift Corporation. The shipyard will have the capacity to haul yachts up to 235 feet long out of the water and perform in-water service for vessels 236 feet (72 meters) and longer.
RMK MS has installed an advanced environmental protection system in the Miami Superyacht Center. It features a subterranean water filtration that cleans runoff water for reuse. This system has been engineered to set a new standard for U.S. shipyards for maintaining and improving water quality, according to a company spokesperson.
The Miami Superyacht Center has been closed since October 2017 and will not fully reopen until August of this year.
RMK MS has also completely revamped the South Yard with updated tools and equipment, including a new 100-ton Marine Travelift. Other renovations include an expanded parts department, a new café and updated offices. New training facilities and classrooms provide space where RMK MS partners like Sea Hawk Yacht Paints and Boning USA can conduct product knowledge classes.
Crew lounges at both the North and South Yards will feature new furniture and large screen televisions.
Esbary Corporation is doing the construction work for the Superyacht Center, while the RMK MS service team and various subcontractors performed the work for the South Yard.
