Sunset Marina Awarded State Grant
Published on December 1, 2017Sunset Marina in Tennessee is a recipient of a grant from the Waterways Accessibility for Tennessee Recreation (WATR). The grants provide funds to improve and maintain access to the state’s waterways.
The program, administered by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, will divide $500,000 among 41 recipients. The goal of the department is to see improved services, facilities, and overall experiences for tourists and recreational boaters using the state waters.
Sunset Marina will use the money to repair and improve its floating docks and overall infrastructure. Tom Allen, vice president and general manager of the marina estimates that since the facility opened in 1994, it has contributed over $8 million in taxes and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rental fees proving it to be an economic engine for Pickett County.
