Workforce Amendment to MA Budget Passes Senate
Published on June 4, 2018The Massachusetts Marine Trades Association (MMTA) announced that Amendment #301 to the Massachusetts Senate budget was adopted, providing support for workforce solutions within the recreational boating industry in the state. Specifically, the amendment would allocate $100,000 of funding to the MMTA to build and support workforce development programs. Thirteen senators overall supported the amendment that was sponsored by Senator Donald F. “Don” Humason Jr. (MA-R).
The recreational boating industry in Massachusetts has an economic impact of more than $2 billion dollars and employs more than 11,000 men and women. The industry is facing a substantial workforce shortage. Amendment 301 will now go to Conference Committee vote (3 House members / 3 Senate members) and then on to the Governor.
